From bicycles to books: Reasons to visit the market (as if you needed them) 😉

#CyclistSaturday, are you ready?

We’ve recently added a bicycle rack to the market, where your bicycle can be safely stored while you enjoy the market. To celebrate this addition, some of our traders are offering ‘bicycle specials’ THIS Saturday, 6 March 2021.

These specials include discounts on pancakes, delicious breakfasts, coffees, cappuccino and cakes, specials on freshly squeezed health juices, silicone rings, cycling shirts, massage oils and much more.

Look out for the bike sign at the market to present your helmet! See you this Saturday. We’re open from 9am – 3pm.

For the love of books: A World Storytelling Day special

Join our special “book day” at the market. It’s our tribute to World Storytelling Day on 20 March. Our trader, Jurie Adendorf, will host a reading corner for young and old to immerse themselves in the pages of books they love. And don’t forget the resident Discount Books Bus that caters for a younger generation of readers!

Harvest time in the Winelands

Did you know that winemaking was introduced to our area more than 300 years ago? The winemaking skills of Huguenot settlers certainly helped position our region as a wine hub. Since that time, our wine farms and cellars have been perfecting the art of crafting sophisticated and delicious wine.

And today, Franschhoek is known as the food and wine capital of South Africa!

Our local wineries are currently busy in the vineyards with the harvest season. We wish the winemakers and the hardworking teams a successful season.

You’ve never tasted a samoosa quite like this!

If you've ever visited the Franschhoek Village Market in search of the most delicious samoosas - then you'll definitely know our #TraderTuesday feature, Theresa Adonis. Born and bred in Franschhoek, Theresa has been part of our market family for what feels like forever. This mother of three is well known for her authentic samoosa varieties. Beef, chicken, prawn and avocado or even corn and cheese - her menu delivers a bang of flavour. As an entrepreneur since 2013, in order to support her family, Theresa hopes to attract visitors to the market with her unique samoosas (and for them to return again and again for more). Come say 'hi' to Theresa at the market every Saturday, and taste her sensational samoosas - you'll love it!

The move to lockdown level 1 is great news for the market, and our wonderful and innovative traders. So as we continue to trade and create a safe market environment, we’re looking forward to seeing even more friendly faces from near and far gather in the spacious venue under the cooling oak trees.

Warm regards,

The Franschhoek Village Market team
